Useful Information
To help you to more fully enjoy your tours, here are some additional information to help you understand the different destinations we bring you to and to be aware of certain do’s and don’ts.
1. Indonesia
Indonesia is a country of 700 different languages and their cultural practices can be very different from region to region. This is totally to be expected in a nation of islands that stretches 5,100km from east to west (by comparison, Australia is only 4,000 km at its widest). Read more about Indonesian geography and history in Britannica.
Although Indonesia is the world’s largest Muslim nation, there are as many Christians there as there are people in Australia! There are in fact several Catholic holy sites which have been credited with miraculous healings and our favourite, Ganjuran Church, has a large congregation of several thousand and sits in a predominantly Muslim area. Its main shrine in honour of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is built in the style of a Hindu temple and Jesus is depicted as a Javanese royal – a truly amazing blend of cultures.
Australians love travelling to Indonesia (especially Bali) but view Indonesia merely as a destination for great surf, beaches, bars and food. There is much, much more to the country.
